Kim Bates, who has 23 years of experience in the electrical field, is a Superintendent for Midwest Electric, where he manages utility distribution crews.
Areas of expertise include high-voltage maintenance work, safety planning, large project management, and construction for overhead and underground distribution.
Previously, Kim spent 22 years at American Electric Power (AEP) as a lineman, distribution dispatcher and materials manager. While at AEP, he was a member of the company’s Behavioral Based Safety Committee, and completed a variety of training programs, including computer and productivity resources training.
In addition, Kim has:
- Performed “hot-line” maintenance on various voltage using techniques up to 69kV / Hot Stick, Rubber Glove and Bare Hand
- Completed more than 1,000 hours as a working foreman
- Performed underground construction and maintenance experience up to 34.5 kV
- Completed more than 300 hours of high-voltage electric training
- Completed meter training, including Hipot meter testing and Miller meter testing
- Been certified as a crane and heavy construction equipment operator
Community activities include building the props for the drama department at Lakewood High School, where his son, 18, and daughter, 15, are students. Kim also enjoys fishing, trapshooting, horseback riding, and buying and restoring old houses.
